01st April – No April Fools

The first drive of the new month started off well, and there was no need for any April Fools jokes today!

We had some giraffes fighting on the airstrip, side-striped jackal, and a good number of waterbuck sightings around the Sharalumi, and then some really nice elephant around Makulu dam – including a mature female doing her best to chase a pesky young bull away from her herd! Some of the herd made their way to the dam for a drink and a quick swim, before wandering off.

Herald found Kuhanya female leopard near Peru concrete crossing, as well as a large herd of elephant up north. Johannes also managed to locate Mangadjane male leopard this morning. While tracking him, Johannes could see where he had eaten a warthog, but finished it and moved off. Johannes knew he was close when he found the leopard’s tracks on top of my vehicle tracks in an area I hadn’t drive long before!

The trackers also unfortunately tracked the Sohebele pride of lions off the property as the pride moved back to the north; something they seem to be doing on a regular basis. They will hopefully return to the Timbavati in the next day or two.

I will be driving again on Friday, so will post some more updates then.

Cheers
