So........ I know Chad mentioned that our own Godfrey Matebula had made it into the top eight for the Guide of the Year. The final was judged over the past four days, where all the participants were judged on a wide variety of subjects that covers a guides day to day dealings. It included testing not only their knowledge of the fauna and flora but also categories such as: Photography, Tracking & Trailing, Shooting, Bird Identification – sight & sound, and also Storytelling, to mention but a few.
With the final taking place here in the Timbavati, Godfrey had a distinctive home ground advantage but all of you that know Godfrey and to those of you who have never met him, he is a gentleman of note and he did not press home his competitive edge thus opening the door for Greg Lederle from Madikwe to take the overall honours.
From what Godfrey recounted to me it all sounded very intensive, with the cream of South Africa's guides being present. They all came with their own strengths and weaknesses and from what he told me it sounds like they all learnt a great deal from one another and overall was a great learning experience. True to Godfrey's positive outlook he already has next years title in his sights!
From all of us here at Motswari we would like to once again congratulate you on your fine achievement and we could not think of a better or more deserving person to represent us here at Motswari. Godfrey, although you may not have won, this time, Motswari has with your choice to live and work here with us, you are our winner and our number one!
